Man Goes Out for Lunch, Comes Home with $425 Million

B. Raymond Buxton was queuing for a Sub for lunch and like a lot of people looked around while waiting. He saw lottery tickets were available and bought one for $2. His life got very interesting not long after because his numbers came up. All of them, giving him $425 million, a 21,249,999,900% return on his investment.

Whilst he’s worked to keep as much of himself private as possible, he intends to put a lot of this money into a foundation for child health, hunger, and education. If he’s able to make this work then countless children could get a great start in life because of him, a start they’d never get otherwise.

We should warn you though that a particular brand of sandwiches doesn’t guarantee winning hundreds of millions. As Buxton’s t-shirt said ‘Luck of the Jedi I have’.

 

 

Driver Stopped For Speeding Whilst Trying to Cash £30k Lottery Win

It isn’t easy to keep your cool when you realise you are a winner.

Young Scott Lowe, aged 22, was in a state of high excitement when he realised he’d won the equivalent of £30,000 on a Massachusetts State Lottery scratchcard. The only thing he had to do was to get to the lottery headquarters to claim his prize.

He was driving to collect his winnings when local Hingham police spotted him travelling well over the speed limit. Scott was pulled over and was visibly shaking as he blurted out the reason for his haste.

Officers must hear every excuse in the book for speeding and are usually very cynical. These agents of the law, however, had a sense of humour and let Scott go with just a warning about speeding. So, he not only wins a small fortune, he escapes paying a fine too. Lucky man indeed!

Man Spends 20 Years and £80,000 on the World’s Biggest Scratchcard Collection

Most people buy a lottery ticket or a scratchcard in the hope of winning a big prize, but a Cheshire man has amassed a collection of 100,000 National Lottery scratchcards and, amazingly, 10,000 of the cards remain unscratched.

Dave Mannix, 42, collected the cards over twenty years and has spent £80,000 buying new and used cards. The collection contains almost every scratchcard released since 1994, when they were first introduced, and takes up an entire room in the house he shares with his partner Sue. Most of the unscratched cards have now expired, so Mr Mannix cannot collect any winnings.

Mr Mannix now hopes to sell the collection for £500,000, although he’s been told it could fetch up to £5 million. If he can find a willing buyer, it’ll turn out to have been a pretty tidy investment.

Casinos may Finally be Coming to Japan

Casinos may expand across Japan as the government seek to pass a new gaming bill. This proposal would allow for widespread recreational gambling in time for the 2020 Olympics. If the draft goes through then previous restrictions would be lifted to allow for developments in smaller towns as well as cities. Laurence Ho of Melcro Crown has declared plans to invest £3 billion in the Japanese gambling industry if permission is granted. He joins other large casino operators including Las Vegas Sands, Caesars and MGM Resorts by expressing such an interest.

Japan has long been touted as an attractive gaming target. The world’s third largest economy offers a large native population with a lively tourist scene. Potential annual revenues of £12.5 million have been estimated with some speculation going even higher. This decision could create a vibrant new stop on the global gambling scene.

Well That’s one way to Make an Entrance – Zip Lines Coming to Vegas

Just when you thought the Las Vegas Strip couldn’t get any more exciting, three zip lines are set to open, the first at the Rio Casino in November 2013. Starting from the patio of ‘The Voodoo Steakhouse’ on the 50th floor of the Masquerade Tower, daredevils can fly along the suspension line to the Ipanema Tower and then return to the starting point. The zip line is just over half a kilometre in total and seventy seconds long and only costs $25 to ride.

A second line is in the works high above Fremont Street. ‘Slotzilla’ will incorporate two lines, both taking off from a 12-metre platform and traveling under the massive Viva Vision screen. The lower line will be 22 metres from the ground; more adventurous fliers can ride the higher line at 34 metres above the crowds. MGM Resort executives state that a third zip line between the Excalibur and Luxor casinos is in its planning stage.

How a Gambling Grandma Broke the Record

Across the world, even amongst the most experienced craps players, you will be hard-pressed to meet somebody who can lay claim to having scored a 154-roll game. Yet, Patricia Demauro from New Jersey managed to achieve just that at a casino in Atlantic City.

A grandmother, Demauro decided to try her luck at craps after growing tired of playing the slot machines. Although she was not familiar with the terminology of the game, she soon found that she was scoring a string of lucky rolls as spectators began to gather. Eventually, she broke the record for the world’s longest game of craps – and seems to have pocketed a tidy sum in the process. Although Demauro has not publicly announced her winnings, experts on gambling have estimated that the total amount will be hundreds of thousands of dollars.
