Chinese Table Etiquette

There’s no better way to ingratiate yourself with the local people when travelling than by showing awareness of their cultural habits and routines. Here’s a list of rules and taboos for those of you who want to have fun by embracing the traditional way in which Chinese food is eaten.

  • At the start of the meal wait for the host to seat all his guests and don’t start eating until the host has invited you to.
  • You will eat your meal using chopsticks so it is a good idea to practice before you arrive. When eating, take care not to twirl, lick or point with your chopsticks.
  • Eat at the same speed as those around you and don’t smoke at the dinner table.
  • If you are a guest do not pour your own drink.
  • If someone gives you a toast you should immediately pause your eating to acknowledge and toast in response.

These tips ensure that your chinese food experience will be as genuine as it can possibly get, without having to leave Wales!

Blackjack Strategies

Gambling is widely thought of as a form of gaming in which everything is down to pure chance. This is certainly true of some games, but there are others in which skill and strategy can make all the difference. A prime example of this is the game of blackjack.

With blackjack, points are key, and so a sharp player will be able to tip the odds in their favour by paying close attention to both the points of the dealer’s visible card, and the points of their own hand. It is quite possible to work out the best moment in which to make your move, thereby helping you to win big in your next game of blackjack.

Adopting the Perfect Poker Face

Being able to obscure your true emotions is a key part of playing poker successfully. Everyone has ‘tells’, or signs that give away what their intentions are. Being aware of your own tell-tale expressions and movements will help you mislead and mystify your opponents much more easily.

There are two approaches the thinking poker player can adopt. One is to remain absolutely stone-faced all the time, showing little or no emotion at whatever occurs in the game. This can be hard to maintain, as an element of relaxation is necessary to play well. Showing little or no reaction in this way is usually regarded as being the classic ‘poker face’.

An alternative approach is to be ebullient and lively, reacting clearly to everything that occurs. This way, you can mislead your opponents with displays of fake emotion. Harder to carry out, this strategy can be very effective, especially when used by a more experienced player.
