How to Make Your Own Fortune Cookies
Ever fancied making your own fortune cookies? Here’s how…
Ingredients:
- 1 egg white
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 35g normal flour
- 65g caster sugar
Baking Instructions:
1.Preheat your oven to 200 degrees celsius. Write your fortunes on paper segments around 10cm long and 1.5cm wide. Grease 2 greaseproof paper sheets.
2.Mix in the egg white with the vanilla until it becomes foamy. Gently sift the flour, salt, and sugar and blend into the egg white mixture.
3.Place teaspoonfuls of the mixture 10cm inches apart from one another on one of the prepared greaseproof sheets. Gently move the sheet in order for the mixture to manoeuvre into circular shapes which measure 7.5cm in diameter. Make sure the mixture is as circular and as even as it can be. Remember not to create too many as the fortune cookies have to be hot so they can form the required shape. Begin with three or four to a sheet to start off with.
4.Oven cook for at least 5 minutes or until the fortune cookie is a golden brown colour. The centre of the cookie should remain pale. While one sheet is in the oven, make sure the other is adequately prepared.
5. Take the tray out of the oven and immediately move the cookie with a wide spatula and put in a upside down position on a board. Place the written fortune segment on the cookie, making sure it is close to the middle. Then carefully fold the cookie in half. Take the folded edge and place across the rim of a measuring cup and pull the protruding edge downward. Put the folded fortune cookies into muffin cases or a muffin tin. The structure of both containers should hold the cookies’ shape until they go hard.
